  • 1 - Cleanse your skin thoroughly in the morning and evening to remove excess sebum and impurities. Use a gentle, non-irritating product specially formulated for oily or combination skin.
  • 2 - Avoid overly-harsh cleansing products (containing Marseille soap or alcohol, for example), as these can irritate your skin and trigger increased sebum secretion as a reaction.
  • 3 - Once a week, pamper your skin with a gentle scrub for deep cleansing: you can use an exfoliating brush, a scrub containing abrasive microbeads, or a fruit acid peel. Next, apply a purifying mask to regulate sebum production.
  • 4 -After cleansing in the morning, apply a hydrating and mattifying moisturiser such as the Hydrating Purifying Emulsion.
  • 5 - In the evening, remove your make-up thoroughly using a product specially formulated for oily or combination skin types, such as the Cleansing and Make-up Remover Lotion. Then hydrate your face with a hydrating and purifying product such as the Purifying Anti-imperfections Emulsion, which will help keep your skin healthy.
  • 6 - It is essential to hydrate oily or combination skin: excess sebum does not mean excess water and as such these skin types can, paradoxically, be prone to dryness.
  • 7 - Reduce sources of stress wherever possible, as this triggers increased sebum secretion.
  • 8 - Contrary to popular belief, there is no reason for people with oily or combination skin to steer clear of make-up. In fact, make-up can help to mattify your skin and cover any blemishes. But you should only wear oil-free, non-comedogenic cosmetics like most of those found in the beauty section of chemists.
  • 9 - Keep a block of mattifying or oil control blotting paper in your handbag. These small sheets absorb excess sebum, allowing you to correct your complexion easily and quickly throughout the day.
  • 10 - In summer, systematically use a high-SPF sunscreen (SPF 30 or 50 depending on how fair your skin is). The sun is no friend to oily or combination skin types: initially it dries out the skin, but in the medium term it thickens it, clogs the pores, triggers greater sebum production and increases blemishes.
  • 11 -A balanced diet including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables is essential for healthy skin. However, there is no proven link between having oily skin and eating fatty foods such as chocolate or cured pork meats, so you can treat yourself from time to time without worrying about what effect this will have on your skin!

Lastly, if your oily or combination skin has a lot of blemishes, don’t hesitate to see a skin specialist: they will be able to prescribe a treatment to clear it up.
